Nose : Over the top sweetness. A lot of vanilla custard, toasted oak and butter biscuits with caramel. Apple and banana, later also hints of plum schnapps and limoncello. Light hints of apricot jam. Candied ginger and floral touches too.
Mouth : Sweet and spicy. A lot of wood now, with peppery kick, ginger and nutmeg. The sweetness is dialed up to eleven as well, slightly liqueur-like even, full of toffee, pear drops and white chocolate. The green woody side keeps growing stronger.
Finish : Drying, with the barrels taking over, though not as lengthy as I expected. Slightly hot and peppery.

Nose: Pockets of spicy nutmeg float upon a calming vanilla.
Palate: A fruitiness follows on the vanilla sea alongside the nutmeg. Orange buoys bob up and down, sharp and fresh.

COLOUR: Golden amber. When you at first open the bottle, sherry and toffee notes float up. The Ballantine’s 17yo makes long thick oily fingers in the glass. NOSE: After the initial sherry sweetness, the nose brings notes of tropical fruit, pineapple and banana. There are hints of oak and cereal at the back. The nose is complex, luxurious and creamy. PALATE: The Ballantine’s 17yo is incredibly smooth. The palate brings notes of creamy oak and spice. There are hints of vanilla sweetness balanced with little bits of smoke. It is a complex whisky that reminds us of liquid gold. Drinking this Ballantine’s 17yo is an amazing experience. FINISH: Long and lingering with fruit and hints of sweetness, oak and spice at the end. This blended whisky is impressive. |
Nose: Cooked fruit, sherry, toffee, a rum-like quality and notes of Bas Armagnac distilled circa 1940.
Palate: Rich. Liqueur cherries in dark chocolate, more sherried fruit, ripe dark forest fruits, like a Black Forest Gateaux. Finish: Superb, led by thick dark treacle and toffee notes and chewy wooded notes, balanced with a green fruit edge. |
Nose: Quite full. There are notes of honey and wax, resin and oak. There are notes of gentle smoke and cacao, hints of cooked fruit and a nutty note.
Palate: Sweet and rich. There are crisp notes of mixed peels, raisin and custard with a little zest and plenty of oak. Finish: Long with notes of oak and cocoa and sherried peels. ABV: 43% |

Nose: Caramel and charred oak, a little orange blossom, manuka honey and vanilla.
Palate: Thick and creamy with notes of vanilla, toasty oak, honey again, a little apricot too.
Finish: Good length – rounded and rich.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Fruity and spicy with notes of vanilla, orange zest and potpourri, marmalade and sweet milk chocolate. A touch of leather and sultana.
Palate: A delicious fireside dram with notes of chocolate raisins, juicy citrus, stewed fruits, old sherry and pepper.
Finish: A long, fruity finish ending on almond, buttery toffee apples and cocoa.
